What Makes a Good Life Lessons from the longest Robert Waldinger
What makes a good life? Mm, we ask ourselves this same question everyday. 50% of humans say they want to be rich and the other 50% want to be famous, but is it just that easy to want to be at these specific points? There is more to life than wanting to be rich and wanting to be famous. This TED Talk was one of my favorites because there's one main point that summed everything up, happiness. " I had everything and luck." (Autobiographia-G.E. Patterson). This leads to happiness. Everyone wants to be happy and have a good life but seeking that is just so hard for some people, for example: in reality that action leaves society complaining. "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness." (Barack Obama- Keynote Address to the 2004 Democratic National Convention). I learned that in life social connection relationships in families and friends show that people live longer and happier than those of loneliness. Loneliness turns out to be toxic. Its a proven fact. The speaker states that “Living in the mist of conflict is bad for our health.” That is absolutely true. He speaks upon how us humans when we are curious we seem to always ask others about how their life/successes turned out rather than to go further into our lives and experience it for ourselves. That kind of connects to when some people want to become something big they rather imagine their successes from another person than going on ahead and achieving it. The speaker talked about the value of a relationship. Everyone can have a relationship, but he states that it dose not matter the time or who you are with, what matters is the quality and connection with one another. For instance, if you have two best friends, and you have known one for ten years and the other for two, the ten year friend is picky and that relationship seems to always collide in arguments, but the two year friend is always there when you need them and is understanding; it would not matter how long you have known each other, the only thing that matters is the value of love and enjoyment that brings out the importance of happiness. Dennis Kimlre once said, "The true American Dream not only provides the freedom to use your gifts and talents to achieve your highest goal, but also gives you the freedom to fulfill your purpose in life. You are meant to work in ways that suit you, drawing on your natural talents and gifts. This work, when you find it and commit to it - even if only as a hobby - is the key to happiness."
